During the Shropshire Good Food Trail many of our venues and hosts will be holding events that you can get involved with. 

NOTE to visitors: Not all venues (especially farms and community gardens) are open all the time, so please check opening hours and the events listings / calendar to ensure that there is something on.

Shropshire Markets

Bishop’s Castle Town Hall hosts a flea market on the first Saturday of the month, and a farmers’ market on the third Saturday from 9am to 1pm.

Bridgnorth holds a market along the high street and beneath the Town Hall on Fridays and Saturdays. A speciality Sunday market takes place twice a month from March to December.

Church Stretton has a charter market in the Town Square every Thursday from 8.00am to 2.00pm.

An indoor market takes place on Tuesdays in Ellesmere’s Market Hall, from 9am to 2pm.

Ludlow Local Produce Market is a large, twice-monthly farmers' market selling a wide range of everyday and specialist food and drink produced within 30 miles of Ludlow. 9am -2pm.

Ludlow holds daily markets in Castle Square (apart from Tuesdays), with a farmers’ market on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of every month (see above for Local to Ludlow Market).

Street Market on Wednesday. Indoor market Wednesday and Saturday.

Much Wenlock has been a market town for over 800 years. It has daily markets in the Corn Exchange, the Square and in the Buttermarket under the Guildhall.

Newport’s striking blue and white Indoor Market Hall was built in 1860. It’s open from 8am to 3.30pm every Friday and Saturday.

Oswestry’s Town Market is on Bailey Head. The indoor market is open Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and the open air street market is on Wednesday and Friday. Artisans’ Market is the last Friday of the month and other speciality markets take place all year.

Shrewsbury’s award-winning Market Hall on Claremont Street is open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 8am to 4pm (with occasional late-night openings).

 

Shrewsbury Farmers Market brings the fields of Shropshire to Shrewsbury Square. A plethora of delicious food and drink will be on offer to tempt people to try some of the best locally produced food.

 

Farmers’ and specialist markets also take place in the Square on the 1st Friday of each Monday 9am – 3.30pm:

The Made In Shropshire market takes place on 2nd Saturday of each month in the Square 9am – 5pm.

Welcome to Wellington Market, a historic marketplace that has stood strong since 1244. With over 50 diverse market traders and a vibrant food court, we offer an eclectic mix of goods, homewares, and services. Indulge in our delicious food offerings, catering to all tastes and cravings.

Wellington Market trades on Tuesdays, Thursday and Fridays from 9am to 4pm and on Saturdays from 9am to 4.30pm.

Wem has its market in the Town Hall and on Jubilee Square opposite the towns Co-op on Thursdays from 9am to 2pm. You will also find a monthly farmers market on the second Saturday of each month on Jubilee Square 9am – 1pm.

An indoor market takes place in Whitchurch’s Market Hall on High Street, on Fridays from 8am to 1pm. You’ll find a farmers’ market here on the first Saturday of every month.

Our indoor markets take place in and around St Mary’s Church in the centre of Cleobury Mortimer, just off the High Street, from 9.30am to 12.30pm.

The markets are held every 3rd Saturday in the month throughout the year.

Come along to Lydham Friday Market (at Lydham Village Hall) where you can stock up on:  Fruit and veg, flowers, fresh local bread, cakes and pastries, local free range meats, pies, a variety of cheese, pickles, eggs. Browse round our craft, gift and home products stalls including ethnic clothing/insence/cards, knitted clothes, printed goods, designer home furnishings, wild wool gifts, recycled bricketts to burn, pet products, garden implements and plants/shrubs. Then why not enjoy a cup of coffee/tea and bite to eat at our popular cafe! You can also buy electrical goods or arrange repairs !  Open 8am - 2pm.

This week gives us a chance to share our beautiful home with friends, previous visitors and people interested to see what we do, whilst getting important maintenance jobs done, which we need your help with.

Moonshine and Fuggles RUM TASTING EVENINGS 2024

We invite you to our store on The Square in Ironbridge for an evening of rum tasting. From 7pm to approx 9pm - 4 wonderful rums from around the world and for the final rum you will create a wonderful cocktail. This will be accompanied by tapas style food from Steve Guy aka 'The Hungry Guy' from Shrewsbury. 

The evening is £45 per person and places are limited to 12 per evening.

If you are unable to attend, the money is non refundable although we will look to offer an alternative date where possible. We will also send you a dietary requirement form to complete and return.

Come to the floral studio in Ironbridge Gorge and immerse yourself in beautiful Summer blooms! You will learn how to condition and take care of your flowers in order to get the best out of them and go on to use the spiral technique to create your very own beautiful hand tied bouquet using locally grown flowers. (Subject to availability) You will proudly walk away with your own floral creation nestled beautifully into a gift bag. Midsummer Dried Meadow Workshop - Nettie of the Gorge

We are situated right on the High Street, by the famous Iron Bridge nestled in the beautiful Gorge, where at the studio shop you will be encouraged to design a beautiful dried flower Meadow using wonderful dancing floral's and grasses, arranged gracefully in a rusted tin box. A statement piece to decorate your mantelpiece, sideboard or windowsill. This arrangement will last a long time as you are using preserved dried flowers and with no maintenance. You will enjoy local refreshments, a complimentary glass of fizz and feel relaxed in an informal and friendly space. Please note: Workshops are non-refundable as all materials would be allocated to your booking.  Nettie would love you to join her! Meadow box measures approx : 35cm x 9cm - For indoor use only.

The Kitchen at Maynard's Farm

Butchery Course with Rob Cunningham

Spend the day learning how to butcher, cure and sausage your pig.

Your day starts at 9am prompt and armed with a side of pork each you will spend the morning learning to butcher it from nose to tail, the different cuts and the various uses for them.

After a delicious lunch prepared by Fiona, we spend the afternoon learning how to make sausages the old-fashioned way and how to dry cure bacon and gammon.

Carbon Farmers are partnering with Commonwood Farm for a series of pop-up events.

Carbon Farmers: We will be serving fresh hot snacks cooked on our Tawi outdoor stove & explaining how it works using free fuel as a sustainable alternative to a traditional BBQ. Also how it produces good quality biochar/porous charcoal as an end product, and suggestions for using that resource in compost or as a deodorizer & how to make Tawi biochar charcoal briquettes to use as a sustainable alternative to conventional BBQ charcoal.

Promotion: A hot snack taster will be FREE to those who show the Good Food Trail ‘map’ on arrival at a Commonwood Farm pop-up event.

Commonwood Farm: 

We are a traditional family farm surrounded by orchards & grazing sheep. We grow & make our own apple juice, vintage sparkling perry, pear gin & pear brandy. We open every other Friday throughout the summer in our Threshing barn plus courtyard seating. Come & enjoy a wood-fired pizza, fresh waffles & hot snacks cooked on the Carbon Farmers Tawi outdoor stove.  Seasonal lamb packs available to order.

The climate shapes them, and the soils and farming culture of each place are influenced by the local lifestyle and the foods they enjoy.

Everything we sell, we source from producers with strong environmental and ethical policies. Pretty much all of what we sell is grown organically, some biodynamically. Lots are produced entirely naturally with nothing added and nothing taken away.

Our aim to preserve and improve the Craven Arms Community Gardens whilst encouraging growth of the community spirit among garden users and the wider community. The ethics of permaculture automatically pull together with Earth care, People care, Fare share. Recognising the need to support water efficiency by harvesting rain water and understanding soil preservation by composting effectively

We will be open every Wednesday starting 12th June to 30th September.

Plus we have our annual Community Barbecue Day on Saturday 31st August.

Fordhall Organic Farm is proud to be England’s first community owned farm, and has been chemical free for 70+ years. The farm is open to the public Tuesday-Sunday, and free to access with free parking, children’s play areas and walking trails leading you through the woodland and by the river.  The site also boasts a cosy café and farm shop, stocking high quality, local and organic foodstuffs. Dogs are welcome on leads.

Burgers, Bushcraft and Bugs - Wednesday 7th August - join Mike and Rachel to build your own burger from scratch, picking your own ingredients, fireside cooking, den building and bug hunting! (Half day or full day available - burger making and fireside cooking morning session, bug hunting, den building and more in afternoon session.)

Drop-off, bookable sessions, morning session 9am-12.30; afternoon session 12.30-4pm. 10 places per session. Ages 7-12 only.

Bug Life – Friday 30th August – 1-3pm - Learn about the importance of pollinators in our food chain, different species, life cycles, habitats. Find and ID them at Fordhall. Learn about the importance of good land management and habitat creation for pollinators and the impact of climate change. How can we play our part? Help Fordhall understand its impact in this area by recording all species found on the day. The target audience for this event is adults but children and families are very welcome! Cost TBC.
